Lecturer in Nuclear Engineering University of East Anglia
I am passionate about encouraging young people into the nuclear energy sector.
My research is centred around one question - when do materials in nuclear systems crack?
To answer this, I use novel local (finite element) and non-local (phase-field and peridynamics) multiphysics models to understand material and component failure at the engineering scale in both fission and fusion contexts. I am particularly interested in the mechanical response to dimensional change, creep, plasticity and thermal strain.
My research is characterised by industrial collaboration, and I have close links with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, National Nuclear Laboratory and Rolls Royce.
